Chill Out and Build an Empire – Double-Capricorns

In my post on double signs, A.J. commented that she’d like to see a post on double-Capricorns as well. I think that’s brilliant idea, because Cancer and Capricorn are two sides of the same coin. I think the best example of this is double-Capricorn Jimmy Buffett.
Oh yeah, feel that tropical breeze blowing in? That’s Jimmy Buffett, baby. He was the king of good times, white sand and, of course, margaritas.
But he didn’t just slide into history out of nowhere. This kid climbed. When he was around 15, he saw a folk band play and decided that he wanted to learn to play music himself. His first performance was a month later. And he was good. That little Capricorn chose a mountain and Got. To. Work.
Of course, he had a little help. His father and grandfather were both involved in sailing, and that same out in his music. In college, he struggled to juggle his studies, music, women, and drugs, and it took him several tries, all paid for by his parents. Eventually came out with a degree in history (same as me! Uh, without the partying. I was never good at that). And, same as me, he quickly found that a history degree not exactly a hot commodity, and he instead got work in a shipyard.
Growing tired of this, he went to find a new mountain, moving to all the traditional music cities in the US. But what finally stuck was a busking gig in Key West that got him in touch with the literary scene. Imagine this man snorting coke with Truman Capote! But this allowed him to gain the connections he needed to truly become something big.
This was around the time he discovered his style. It turns out there’s a lot of money in telling people to chill out and not worry about money! He figured this out lightning-fast, and from there, he built an empire.
He released over 30 albums. He created two restaurant chains. He had financial tendrils in hotels, casinos, liquor brands, and even retirement communities, all based off of his ‘island escapism’ brand. He was a best-selling author, and eventually became one of the world’s richest musicians.
That’s how Capricorn does it.
But his life wasn’t perfect. His first marriage was done in by his partying lifestyle and his inability to protect his personal life from fame. His second marriage almost nearly ended for the same reason. He had picked up his wife while she was in her teens and he in his 30s. She eventually realized that she had spent her adult life in a drug-fuels haze, and she had to leave to get clean and discover who she was outside of “the margarita guy’s wife.” They did eventually reconcile, but it took years.

Now, contrast this with Courtney Love. Her emotions, her struggles, her addiction, and her pain were right on the surface, begging people to watch and even judge. She lived with complete rawness. She never built an empire, but she never had to hide.
Jimmy Buffett had a wild personal life that rivalled and even surpassed Love’s, but it never broke containment. He kept himself publicly on brand at all times. He was always the chill island dude with a coconut in his hand, even when he was making billions.
That’s the difference. Cancer can hold it together and live through whatever you throw at them, but you’re going to see the wounds. They are authentic to the core, but that can mean that they don’t carry that authenticity to the bank.
Capricorn can hold it together and hide the mess from the world, at the expense of their ability to be real. Of course, that might not matter when you’re sitting on a mountain of gold!

Thank you so much for this article, Midara! It's fascinating to read about Jimmy Buffett. I did not know he was a double Capricorn. Having lived with my double Capricorn husband for a long time, I can tell you that life can bring them unimaginable challenges but these double Capricorns never stop until they reach their goal. They are blessed with the power to endure heartache and loss and still never give up.
