We’re Only as F^cked as We Choose to Be

Today, many people in the US are waking up to horrible news. Many are falling down the rabbit hole, their minds swimming with all the ways that we are, as a nation, so thoroughly, completely, and utterly fucked. And I get it. I doubt it’s a surprise to anyone reading here that I consider this awful news as well. I am a person with marginalized identities and so are many of the people I love. But I’m here to tell you:

We’re only as fucked as we choose to be.

Look, Pluto has just entered Aquarius. Pluto loves to make its point immediately and loudly. Remember 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn? It was BAM – the bubble bursting, WHACK – broken dreams, SLAM – whoops, business has fucked us over. And now we’re seeing the same thing.

I know everyone has been talking about Pluto in Aquarius in terms of technocracy. And yes, I think that’s part of it. But what we’re missing is that Aquarius rules large groups. The collective. The majority. And now, as Pluto moves into Aquarius and exposes its dark side, we’re seeing the dark side of democracy itself. WHAM – mob rule, BANG – disinformation, SMACK – fear and spite.

But what are we going to do, lay down and die? We’ve been through Pluto in other signs, and we’ve somehow made it. We can do it now too.

How? We take care of each other.

The collective is not going to save us. The internet is not going to save us. Democracy is not going to save us. We are going to save each other. In small groups, local communities, with mutual aid and care and personal connections.

Personally, I am going to get Red Cross certified in first aid. Riots happen, and I would like to be someone stopping the bleeding. I am also going to meet my neighbors. I live in a multicultural neighborhood and there are often language barriers, but I am going to bake some cookies, fire up Google Translate, and go introduce myself. If they need help, I’ll be there. I’m going to check on my best friends and make sure they’ve got what they need to thrive. I’m going to do my best to secure my financial future. I’m going to try to bolster activity in my local mutual aid group. And most of all, I’m going to keep trying to provide a real, heart-centered, human service here in the way that only Leo can.

I may be fucked, but I can mitigate the damage. And so can you.  

So stand up and stop letting the depression win. Do the hard thing and make something happen that stops the bleeding. Build your community and care for each other. It’s the only way we all survive.
