What Are You Going to Do with All That Power? Transits for the Week of July 22nd

Welcome to the new series on weekly transits, out every Monday afternoon!

This week, the Sun is newly in Leo, shining its heart out. But as soon as it enters, it gets hit with an opposition from Pluto in Aquarius. It’s tempting to say that Pluto is bringing darkness and raining on the Sun’s parade, but we can’t really be that myopic, can we? While the Sun in Leo brings a focus on individual warmth and happiness, Pluto in Aquarius asks us to look beyond our own noses and see what’s happening in the world.

Are you making other people’s lives better? Do you shine your light on others, or keep it all for your own gain? We’re all part of one unit called humanity, so how exactly does it make sense to be selfish? When you have everything, how can you look at someone who has nothing and say that it’s right?

Pluto in Aquarius asks us to contend with the power we wield and put it in the context of the greater good.

Then, on Thursday, we have Mercury entering its favorite sign, Virgo.  All those grandiose thoughts you had about being a magnanimous humanitarian, casting your pearls before the whole of humanity – well, now is the time to figure out what that actually means.

The best way to climb a mountain is one step at a time. In the same way, you can’t transform society in one grand gesture. Start small. When is the last time you stopped to talk to your neighbor? Your friend who is struggling mentally – could they maybe use a nice meal and a sympathetic ear? Can you step outside your own mind and turn an open heart to your partner, even when they’re crabby after a bad day at work? Do you have your local representative’s number saved in your phone? Have you volunteered lately? What is the most efficient way for you to make a difference, right now, today?

And luckily, there will be a little help. Thursday also brings us a sextile between the Sun and Mars. Mars is our engine, the thing planet that gets us out of thinking and into doing. But remember, this is a sextile, not a trine. You won’t find yourself slipping effortlessly into action. You will have to put in the effort.

If we all put in just a little bit of effort every day, we could change the world. The transits this week provide a great place to start.
